The soundtrack album, described as "dark-electronic meets drone-metal," is composed by Berlin-based British composer Sam Slater, whose previous work includes co-composing the Battlefield 2042 score with Hildur Guðnadóttir.
"I wanted a piece that felt like the sky opening when you stare at the Eclipse," Slater wrote, describing "Sun Is Forever. "The result was realised in the studio with Shards, their voices bending and waving to Carcosa’s strange world as Ben Greenberg and Randal Dunn’s thunderous guitars rip the sky apart."
Helsinki-based developer Housemarque previously released the PlayStation 5 features trailer, centering on 3D Audio, DualSense haptics, Adaptive Trigger weaponry, and fast loading times. Saros protagonist Arjun Devraj, voiced by Rahul Kohli, investigates a lost colony under an ominous eclipse on the shapeshifting planet Carcosa, where the terrain morphs unpredictably.
The roguelike cinematic action title features gameplay inspired by classic bullet-hell shoot-em-ups. "A key gameplay distinction between Saros and Returnal is permanent resources and progression making every death valuable," says creative director Gregory Louden.
"After every death you will face a changed world, but in SAROS you will be able to choose and permanently upgrade your loadout from an evolving set of weapons and suit parts to 'come back stronger' to overcome the challenges you face on Carcosa."
Saros for PlayStation 5 is scheduled for launch on April 30th, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
