Swapmeat launches out of early access, verified for Steam Deck
Swapmeat by One More Game has launched out of early access. A playable demo for the third-person action roguelike shooter is available for Windows and MacOS through Steam, verified for use with the Steam Deck.

The satirical sci-fi setting situates players in the role of a scientist working for Rangus Corp. The acquisitive megacorporation is in the process of expanding its reach throughout the known universe by harvesting sustainable, genetically modified food products.

The central gameplay loop involves deploying to hostile alien planets to engage in intense firefights with monsters and robots. By grafting enemy limbs on the player character's torso, new abilities can be put to use toward accumulating lucrative alien meat cores.

A music video set to the main theme can be viewed on YouTube, with trombone and cello ensembles recorded at Hollywood Scoring, Los Angeles.

The Original Soundtrack Album by Austin Wintory is now available through the composer's Bandcamp page, with streaming on Apple Music, YouTube Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music Unlimited.

Wintory describes the score as "absurdly modular" within the game. He writes in the Bandcamp liner notes, "It's among the most complex interactive music systems I've ever devised, allowing for a near 1:1 counterpart in the music for the body/torso/leg switching mechanic that defines the gameplay."

The album features Tom Strahle on guitars, Eric Snoza on upright bass, Kristin Naigus on wind instruments, Paul Cartwright on fiddles, Dana Zulpkhar on dombra, and Rob Schaer on trumpet. Synth Programming is by Joris Hoodsteder, with additional programming by Shireen Ghosh.

From the Steam page:
Rip through hostile alien worlds, harvest mutant body parts mid-combat, and adapt faster than your enemies. Every alien you harvest gives you new body parts with unique powers, like triple-jump legs, turret-dropping torsos, grenade-launching turkey heads. Steal, swap, survive.
