Developed by Team Ninja, the open world game depicts war-torn 19th-century Japan. The player takes on the role of a masterless samurai, set against the historical backdrop of the Bakumatsu-period in the final years of the Tokugawa shogunate. The story unfolds after the arrival of the Black Ships of the West, based on allegiances forged by the player with pro or anti-Shogunate factions.
