The open world game depicts war-torn 19th-century Japan. Set during the Bakumatsu-period in the final years of the Tokugawa shogunate, the player takes on the role of a masterless samurai. The story unfolds after the arrival of the Black Ships of the West, based on allegiances forged by the player with pro or anti-Shogunate factions.
The Rise of the Ronin Digital Deluxe Edition includes the artbook and digital soundtrack album composed by Inon Zur, featured in the PlayStation channel's behind-the-scenes. The 56-track album, published in association with Milan Records, is streaming on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music Unlimited.
