As described by the band through an announcement post, "Our involvement with the game had started all the way back in 2014, a couple of years before release, when we embarked upon writing an infinitely long, infinitely noisy soundtrack to match the scope and ambition of the game."
"Music for an Infinite Universe" was recorded at Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire, in collaboration with co-producer Dave Sanderson. The liner notes lay out their intention to achieve "an experimental and overwhelming sonic experience... while retaining their innate sense of relentlessness, driving rhythm, and a tune you can hum."
Last year, Laced Records published companion piece 'No Man's Sky: Journeys.' The collection of 32 music tracks by 65daysofstatic and Hello Games audio director Paul Weir spans the score added through updates, stretching from game’s launch to 2025’s “Worlds Part II.”
The Original Soundtrack is hosted on streaming platforms, including Spotify and YouTube Music. A behind-the-scenes video can be viewed on the Laced Records YouTube channel.
No Man's Sky is currently available for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PS4 and PlayStation 5 (with optional PlayStation VR2 support), Xbox One and Series X|S consoles. Windows PC and MacOS editions are Steam, verified for use with the Steam Deck.
From the Laced product page:
This new soundtrack includes 32 born out of soundscapes from the game’s launch up to 2025’s “Worlds Part II”. Until now, these soundscapes have been sitting inside the video game generating infinite variations of themselves. Now they’re landing on vinyl – a sonic representation of the game’s constantly evolving journey over the last nine years. No Man's Sky: Journeys (Original Soundtrack) - Apple Music / YouTube Music
