Developed by Masaya Games, Langrisser: The Descendants of Light for NEC PC Engine CD launched in April of 1991, exclusively in Japan.
The first enhanced port of Sega Mega Drive's Langrisser, localized as "Warsong" for English-language regions, added CD-quality music arrangements and voice acted cutscenes to the fantasy-themed strategy role-playing game. A digital edition was published through the Wii U Virtual Console in Japan in 2017.
In 1993, record label Invictus pressed "Hikari No Matsuei Langrisser" to compact disc, comprised of voiced drama sequences and seventeen music tracks from the PC Engine edition. The album reissue, published by Universal Music, is now available for purchase in Japan on compact disc, along with streaming on Apple Music Spotify, YouTube Music and Amazon Music Unlimited. Cover art is by series illustrator Satoshi Urushihara.
Music for the game is by Noriyuki Iwadare, Masanori Hikichi, Miyoko Kobayashi, Hiroshi Fujioka, Naoyuki Ito, and Isao Mizoguchi. The Langrisser I & II remaster for modern consoles is available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Windows through Steam.

Long ago, there was a terrible war over a legendary sword said to grant its wielder unlimited power. The blood of those who vowed to protect it and those who sought its power for themselves permeated the battlefields of El Sallia. That sword is known as Langrisser. Of those who swore to protect it, the royal family of Baldea has safeguarded it from the world for many generations. Thanks to Baldea, tales of Langrisser soon faded from memory.Apple Music - Hikari No Matsuei Langrisser (Streaming)
However, Baldea's sworn duty would be called to action once again. Motivated by power and the conviction to rule the world, Kaiser Digos and the Dalsis Empire he commanded invade Baldea, seeking the enticing power of Langrisser. Ledin, the prince of Baldea, narrowly escapes the invasion, and devises a way to avenge his father, who had been killed by Kaiser Digos. Now, Ledin must reclaim Langrisser, which his ancestors fought so valiantly to protect—thus beginning his journey that will test his loyalty to the Light.
