D2 marks the return of digital actress Laura, a famous computer generated personality who appeared on the cover of Japanese fashion magazine High Fashion. Unrelated to the events of the original, D2 was originally intended to coincide with the launch of Panasonic's successor to the 3DO console. 24 tracks in length, D2 Original Soundtrack is available for streaming on Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music Unlimited.
Pony Canyon distributed D2 Scenes in Japan, featuring vocals by Azusa Dodo. Premiering in June of 1998, the album preceded the launch of the Sega Dreamcast survival horror game by Warp. D2 Scenes 2 followed in December of 1999, coinciding with the release of D2. Both compact disc publications included dozens of tracks that consisted of silent intervals. These pregnant pauses are excluded from the digital editions.
