Five years in the making, Winter Burrow invites players to inhabit the role of a mouse searching for a lost family member. Players can customize the wardrobe of the mouse protagonist, venture out into the winter cold to collect resources, and decorate the interiors of the burrow, while unraveling the mystery of the missing aunt.
"With Winter Burrow, I want to create that place I imagined as a child," creative director Benjamin Salqvist told Xbox Wire. "To be a part of the miniature world and the enchanting life that happens between the gnarled roots of the trees. As a father, I’m happy to be able to give that back to my children. Both with trips out into nature from when they were very small and now seeing them play Winter Burrow and getting lost in that world."
Music for the isometric-perspective adventure is by Andreas Busk. The composer and sound designer writes:
I work first and foremost to make music and sound support the game’s other components — story, game mechanics, animation, and art style — and become part of the larger world building. That’s where I think game development is quite amazing, because a good game can become bigger than the sum of its parts.Winter Burrow will launch for Nintendo Switch, Windows through Steam, and Xbox consoles, included with Game Pass.
For Winter Burrow, one of the design pillars is the contrast between life inside the tree stump — knitting, baking pies, building furniture — and the exploration of nature, where you’re more exposed and alone. Musically, I try to reflect that contrast: whimsical and cozy indoors, more adventurous and energetic outdoors.

Restore your broken-down childhood burrow to a place you can again call home and relax in front of the fireplace. Play as a mouse who has returned from life in the big city only to find that your childhood home is in ruin. And your Aunt, who was supposed to be looking after it, has gone missing.
