Shrouded in mystery, the exploration-based science fiction game centers on protagonist Ouji after her space vessel crashes on the giant sarcophagus of a deadly entity known as Ultros. A looping gameplay mechanic challenges the player to multiple runs, uncovering secrets and unlocking abilities by way of a branching skill-tree.
Swedish developer Hadoque's Ultros: Deluxe Edition includes the digital artbook and soundtrack. Musical continuation album "Gärdner's Pilgrimage," extends the collaboration between artist El Huervo and musician Ratvader. Ultros albums are published via Bandcamp, with streaming on Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music Unlimited.
Game design director Mårten Brüggemann joined the official PlayStation Blog to introduce the independently developed title:
Ultros is intentionally orchestrated with a beautiful, emotional, symphonic soundscape, breaking traditions of sci-fi’s mostly using classic synthesizers, as we instead draw inspiration from, and record, analog instruments, including the cello, viola, violin, ands pump organs. We travelled to Peru and the Amazons to record sounds of nature, classical instruments, and other sound-making tools from Peru’s rich history."The deluxe double vinyl soundtrack ships from publisher Laced Records of London. Sound design is contributed by Niklas Ström and Wavetale composer Joel Bille, with vocal performance by Anna-Maria Lundberg from the band KÅRP, and mastering by Kim Ruiz.
Verified for use with the Steam Deck, Ultros is also available for Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Windows and Mac via Steam and the Epic Game Store, published by Kepler Interactive.
From the PlayStation Blog:
Grounded in science fiction, Ultros comes wrapped in both an eccentric art style from the visionary El Huervo, renowned for his work on Hotline Miami, and a mystical soundtrack composed and performed by Ratvader – Oscar Rydelius. Experience brutal, intimate, close-quarter combat with cosmic lifeforms. Yet this intense combat is juxtaposed with cultivating the greenery and tending to plant life in The Sarcophagus, providing precious moments of contemplation and peace. In turn, this grants deeper access to obscured paths. A unique loop-based mechanic will allow you to start over at key moments in the story, providing opportunities to unfold such secrets, unlock different areas of the world and new abilities on a branching skill tree.Laced - Ultros Vinyl Soundtrack
