Developed by Kotori Yoshimura at Technosoft, free-roaming shoot-em-up Thunder Force debuted in 1983 for the X1 personal computer. The main theme and "Game Over" tracks are adapted from the William Tell Overture by 19th century Italian opera composer Gioachino Antonio Rossini.
Thunder Force II followed in 1988, retaining free-directional scrolling stages and adding horizontal-scrolling "side-view" segments. A Sega Mega Drive port launched the following year, alongside a Sega Genesis localization for North America. Music for Thunder Force II is by series co-composer Tomomi Otani.
Two "Sound! Shock" special bonus tracks included in "Technosoft Music Collection: Thunder Force I & II" are arranged by Kei Takanishi. The album ships from distributor CDJapan.
