Action role-playing game Soul Sacrifice by Marvelous AQL and Japan Studio launched exclusively for the PlayStation Vita console in March of 2013. Key staff members are collaborating on a spiritual successor, targeting VR platforms later this year.

Having served as director and scenario writer on the Vita title, Teruhiro Shimogawa reprises his roles for Thirdverse on tactical action game Soul Covenant, available for Meta Quest 2&3, SteamVR, and PlayStation VR2 platforms. Shimogawa is joined by returning Soul Sacrifice staff: producer Koh Okamura, executive producer Teruyuki Toriyama, and music composer Yasunori Mitsuda.


Soul Covenant situates the player in a post-apocalyptic dystopian future where the remnants of humanity are at war with machines called Deus Ex Machina. An artificial intelligence known as Adam has designs on triggering a major catastrophe, the "Remastering," marking the end of human history. Operating out of humanity's last stronghold, Tokyo Ark, a unit of enhanced cybernetic humans, called Avatars, engage in a desperate attempt to counter this existential threat.

Character design is contributed by Shogo Matsuo of NieR Re[in]carnation. For the music score, Mitsuda's Procyon Studio is collaborating with vocalist lasah. Their previous collaborations include image albums "Innocence" (2013) and "Mother" (2018). lasah also wrote lyrics for vocal tracks featured on the Xenogears Original Soundtrack Revival Disc and the Xenogears 20th Anniversary Concert album.

Soul Covenant Original Soundtrack is streaming on Spotify and Amazon Music Unlimited, published through record label Sleigh Bells. Excerpts of all tracks are streaming on digital music store Ototoy.
