Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake announcement trailer premieres
Koei Tecmo Games' Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S consoles, and Windows through Steam. The Japanese survival horror game will launch in early 2026.

The story follows twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura who encounter a mysterious a crimson-colored butterfly, leading them to a haunted village absent from any map. As Mio attempts to rescue Mayu and escape, her actions unknowingly retrace horrors of the past.

"The signature Camera Obscura mechanic, used to capture and fend off spirits, remains a key feature," reads the product description, "now offering richer and more engaging gameplay in both exploration and combat."


Tecmo's Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly launched for PlayStation 2 in late 2003, featuring music by Ayako Toyoda. Vocal track "Chō," performed by Tsuki Amano, is streaming on Apple Music and YouTube.

Project Zero 2: Wii Edition by Tecmo Koei Games followed in 2012, scored by Riichiro Kuwabara and published by Nintendo. "Kurenai," also performed by Amano, is streaming on Apple Music and YouTube Music.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is currently available for for Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Windows through Steam.
